COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology is organizing an Info Day on February 18, from 10:00 to 11:45 (CET). This session, open to all countries, aims to inform the research community on how to participate in COST actions or submit an action proposal, as well as on the role and impact of this program and the benefits of the COST offer.

The initiative is open to all researchers and innovators at any stage of their career and in any field of research, especially young researchers. To take part, you need to register via the COST events website. This session will be organized on Zoom and broadcast live on YouTube.

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) will be holding a session on February 21, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (mainland Portugal time), to clarify some of the topics covered during the COST session. Registration will also be required to take part in this session.

COST funds transnational collaboration activities in a system of open-access, bottom-up networks of researchers in all scientific and technological fields. These networks, called COST Actions, enable advances in the development of scientific knowledge, helping to strengthen Europe as a leader in R&TD.

A COST action is thus an interdisciplinary research network that brings together researchers and innovators around a specific theme for four years. These actions are open to all scientific and technological fields, including new and emerging ones. COST actions are alsobottom-up, emerging grassroots actions, which means that a network can be proposed based on one’s own interests or ideas.

Funding from a COST action covers the costs of networking activities and can be used to finance events, short-term scientific missions, training schools, communication activities and virtual networking tools.

Around 1,500 members of the scientific and technological system in Portugal benefit from COST funding every year and more than a thousand researchers choose Portugal as the destination for their COST missions and activities.

FCT represents Portugal at COST. More information on the COST page of the FCT website.
