UT Austin hosts Portuguese delegation
From 12 to 14 June, the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), in the United States of America, received the visit of a Portuguese delegation, as part of the ” Go Portugal – Global Science and Technology Partnerships” initiative, headed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, accompanied by the President of the Foundation for Science and Technology, Madalena Alves, and the President of the National Innovation Agency, António Grilo.
The main objective of the visit was to strengthen international partnerships and the FCT initiative “Go Portugal – Global Science and Technology Partnerships”, which aims at the internationalisation of national scientific and technological research, promoting the creation of scientific and qualified jobs and fostering the creation and growth of new science and technology based companies, as well as promoting the international mobility of students, teachers, researchers and non-teaching staff.
The “Go Portugal – Global Science and Technology Partnerships” includes different partnerships with North American universities, including the UTAustin Portugal Programme, which operates in the areas of Advanced Computing, Nanotechnology, Space-Earth Interactions, Medical Physics, and Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Several visits were made to UT Austin facilities, namely to facilities related to innovation (Texas Innovation Center and Texas Inventionworks), nanotechnology (Texas Materials Institute, The University of Texas at Austin and Center for Dynamics and Control of Materials: an NSF MRSEC ), advanced computing (Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and TACC Viz Lab) and clean energy (Center for Energy and Environmental Resources and University of Texas-Center for Electromechanics ). Throughout the visit, opportunities and contributions to the UT Austin Portugal Program were discussed with UT Austin faculty and researchers.
