FCT welcomed the ambassador of China, Dr. Zhao Bentang
On the 16th of November, the President of the Board of Directors of FCT, Madalena Alves, and the Member of the Board of Directors of FCT, Amélia Polónia, received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Bentang, with the aim of reinforce and stimulate the cooperation in science and technology between the two countries.
The year of 2023 marks the 40 years of a joint Portugal-China cooperation in science and technology. FCT and the Chinese Embassy discussed the possibility to organize commemorative actions that represent the strong history of cooperation. With the goal to investing in more sustainable research models, some thematic challenges were mentioned to leverage cooperation, such as the inclusion of knowledge from Traditional Chinese Medicine for research in the area of cancer or rare diseases, the digital, energy and climate transition of society, or the focus on the rich history of Portuguese and Chinese science, not forgetting scientific areas with a strong history of cooperation, such as the oceans, energy, advanced materials, or the humanities.
FCT will maintain a close dialogue with its Chinese partners in order to implement some of the actions proposed during this meeting.
