The Calls Excellent Paper on Neuroscience Award 2024 and Excellent Paper on Neuroscience Award – Neuroethics 2024 are now open.
Applications are now open for the Call Excellent Paper on Neuroscience Award 2024 (EPNA 2024), which aims to distinguish outstanding and exceptional scientific publications in the field of disease-related translational neuroscience. The initiative is aimed at early career researchers from 24 eligible countries, including Portugal.
This year’s award focuses on cerebrovascular diseases, and the articles should contribute to the advancement of relevant translational research issues related to these diseases, including small vessel disease (SVD) and brain barrier dysfunction.
Also this year, and for the first time, the EPNA 2024 will be awarded in the field of neuroethics (EPNA – Neuroethics 2024). The article should be relevant to the ethical, philosophical, legal and socio-cultural aspects related to neuroscience and its recent advances, provide scientific knowledge for an informed debate in science and society, assess opportunities and risks associated with technological and methodological progress and broaden the general knowledge base.
First authors of original research articles published between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 and affiliated to eligible countries can apply for EPNA 2024.
In the case of EPNA – Neuroethics 2024, also aimed at early career researchers and first authors, original research articles must have been published between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2023.
The best proposal from each Call will receive a prize of 3,000 euros and, in the case of EPNA 2024, an invitation to present the paper at the NEURON symposium on May 14 and 15, 2025, including travel support. The winner of EPNA – Neuroethics 2024 may be invited to participate in ERA-NET NEURON events and contribute to the planning of support activities for other early career researchers or other activities within the NEURON network.
The deadline for submitting applications to both Calls is October 1, 2024, at 17:00 (UTC-GMT). For more information, see the text of Call EPNA 2024 and the text of Call EPNA – Neuroethics 2024. The application forms can be accessed at ERA-NET NEURON.
ERA-NETS (European Research Area Networks) aim to promote cooperation between scientific research funding agencies, ministries and/or research institutes of the Member States and associated countries of the European Union, as well as third countries. FCT coordinates the national participation in this instrument.
