From December 19, 2024, until February 25, 2025, applications are invited to Call for Exploratory Research Projects in all Scientific Fields 2024.

The aim of this Call is to fund exploratory projects (PEX) in all scientific fields, with a special focus on innovative proposals aimed at researchers at the start of their careers, or original ideas and concepts that have a high degree of novelty and show the potential to disrupt previous work by more experienced researchers.

The planned duration of the projects to be developed is 18 months, and the maximum funding to be awarded has been increased from 50,000 euros to 60,000 euros per project, without reducing the total number of projects to be funded. The overall budget for this measure is 24 million euros, an increase of 4 million euros compared to Calls .

A narrative CV system will be adopted in the evaluation methodologies, with a view to a more comprehensive and effective assessment of the diversity of the backgrounds of the researchers responsible for the applications.

As part of the simplification of administrative procedures, once funding has been awarded, it will be done through a lump sum model. This is the second edition of Call with this simplified cost model, which will strengthen the mechanisms for monitoring the scientific execution of projects.

This Call maintains the possible allocation of computing time on FCT’s new supercomputers(Deucalion and MareNostrum 5). To do so, simply indicate the need for advanced computing resources and/or research data repositories in your application.
