COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) launches 60 new actions

COST(European Cooperation in Science and Technology) recently approved 60 new Actions aimed at promoting research into strategic themes, encouraging cooperation between the different member states through the creation of partnerships and networks. Noteworthy in this context are seven proposals coordinated by researchers affiliated to SNCT institutions, and also the fact that 90% of the approved Actions have national representation in the group of proposers.

The call for expressions of interest for the Management Committees of these new COST Actions and other Actions with open positions is now open. Please note that the Action Management Committee may include up to two researchers affiliated to SNCT institutions. The deadlines for submitting expressions of interest are as follows:

  • Until June 28, 2024, for all members of the group proposing the new approved actions;
  • Until July 12, 2024, for all others interested in joining the Management Committee of the new approved Actions or others that are underway.

Priority for membership of the Management Committee will be given to those who were part of the proposing group.

More than 250 COST actions are underway, with almost 100% Portuguese participation. See the page on the FCT website dedicated to COST for more information and see here for information on Active Actions, which represent an opportunity for transnational collaboration in a network for interested researchers.

COST’s mission is to support the creation of transnational cooperation networks between researchers across Europe, so that they can freely, openly and jointly develop their ideas and initiatives. These networks, called COST Actions, enable advances in the development of scientific knowledge and the training of their participants. Portugal is a success story in COST, under which more than 1,500 national researchers receive funding every year.

FCT coordinates the promotion and participation of the national scientific community in COST, and is responsible for appointing the members of the Action Management Committee.
