FCT launches “Doutor AP”: new Scientific Training Program for Public Administration
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has announced the launch of the “Doctor AP” Program. This new funding instrument, with an estimated annual budget of 1 million euros, aims to strengthen the scientific capacity of the Portuguese Public Administration and strengthen its links with the Academy.
The main aim of “DoutorAP” is to encourage applied scientific research in the context of public administration, by granting protected time to carry out research projects. It will allow employees to obtain a doctorate degree, while aligning their work plans with the research and development strategies of the entities in which they work.
The program, which takes place annually, is an essential pillar for promoting a more resilient, innovative and capable public sector to face current and emerging challenges in all sectors of society. This year, up to 80 grants will be awarded to public sector workers. The grant contracts will have a maximum duration of six years.
The funding granted by the FCT will translate into the following:
- Protected Time Allowance, corresponding to a percentage of a national doctorate Studentship , proportional to the time spent reducing working hours. Each doctoral student receiving support must benefit from at least one year of protected time, with a percentage of no less than 20% reduction in their working hours, in the first three years of support granted by the FCT.
- Training allowance, which covers the costs of enrolment, registration and tuition fees for the doctoral study cycle, up to a maximum of €2,750.00 per academic year.
Applications will be accepted from November 25, 2024 until 5 p.m. on January 24, 2025 (mainland Portugal time). For more information, please visit Call.
