Prémio João Monjardino 2024 – Rare Genetic Diseases: Detection and Therapeutics
The Prize is intended to distinguish the best paper published on the topic Doenças Genéticas Raras: Deteção e Terapêutica, which describes the results of the research conducted by a researcher under 35 years old, in an institution of the national scientific and technological system.

Under the Protocol signed between the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. and the Fundação Professor Francisco Pulido Valente, the call for the João Monjardino 2024 Prize is open.
The Prize is intended to distinguish the best paper published on the topic Rare Genetic Diseases: Detection and Therapeutics without restrictions on the year of publication, which describes the results of the research conducted by a researcher under 35 years old at the date of submission of the application, in an institution of the national scientific and technological system.
Only one original paper per candidate will be admitted to the Call, published or accepted for publication with proof of acceptance in a national or international journal of the speciality in which the applicant must be the first author or co-author (as long as it is acknowledged in the publication as having an equal contribution to the paper as the first author).

Researchers under 35 years old at the date of submission of the application.

Applications must be submitted between 9 september 2024 and 31 october 2024 (5:00 PM, Lisbon time), by filling in the electronic form available here https://concursosfct.formstack.com/forms/premiojoaomonjardino2023
The following documents must be uploaded in the application form:
- Applicant’s citizen card (Cartão de Cidadão – CC);
- Letter from the head of the research group, confirming that the research was carried out in their laboratory/institution, had his/her acknowledgement and approves the application. The letter must also contain information about the applicant’s contribution to the work published or accepted for publication;
- Proof of acceptance for publication of the paper, if it has not yet been published.

Applications are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Scientific quality of the paper;
- Relevance of the study and relevance of the results obtained within the topic of the prize;
- Contribution of the applicant to the work published or accepted for publication.
The results of the evaluation will be announced on this webpage.
The final decision will be notified to the applicants by e-mail.

The amount of the Prize is 10.000 EUR (ten thousand euros), paid in equal shares by both foundations and awarded in a single instalment.
