FUTURE4PRIMA questionnaire on R&I priorities in water management and agriculture in the Mediterranean
The FUTURE4PRIMA project is running a questionnaire aimed at funding institutions, research institutions, the private sector and civil society to identify the critical challenges and potential areas of innovation and cooperation for the Mediterranean region, with an emphasis on the water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus approach. The call for contributions closes on November 11, 2024.
FUTURE4PRIMA is funded by the Horizon Europe program and aims to contribute to the future of the Partnership for Research and Innovation (R&I) in the Mediterranean Region (PRIMA), of which Portugal is a member, represented by FCT, which runs until the end of 2028.
Firstly, the FUTURE4PRIMA project is identifying research and innovation (R&I) priorities that can tackle the interconnected challenges of climate change, pandemics and conflicts, which affect the already limited resources (water, soil, energy) in the Mediterranean region.
Climate impacts, such as changing precipitation patterns and extreme weather events, along with population growth, urbanization and economic development, put an even greater strain on resources. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive understanding of the region’s ecosystems, cultural heritage and socio-economic conditions, which can be addressed through collaborative R&I initiatives.
The results of this questionnaire will guide FUTURE4PRIMA and the PRIMA initiative in identifying research and innovation priorities for the continuation of PRIMA through PRIMA 2 (2028-2035).
In addition to this survey, complementary seminars may be organized, which will be publicized by the respective promoting countries, and which will provide an additional platform for stakeholders to discuss and fine-tune the priorities identified at national level.
