Science 2023: “Science and the Ocean Beyond the Horizon

The 2023 edition of the Science Meeting will take place on 5, 6 and 7 July in Aveiro, at Campo Universitário de Santiago. It will be the first time the event takes place outside Lisbon, this time under the title “Science and the Ocean Beyond the Horizon”, focusing on the ocean and waters. Logistically, the meeting intends to return strongly to the in-person format, benefiting again from the interaction that the dynamic in loco provides to the participants. Registration is already open.

The Science Meeting is the largest annual event in the area of science and technology in Portugal, promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in collaboration with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture – Ciência Viva and, this year, also with the University of Aveiro. The initiative also has the institutional support of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Parliamentary Committee for Education, Science, Youth and Sports.

National R&D institutions, namely FCT R&D units, CoLABs, Associate Laboratories and State Laboratories, participate actively every year in the scientific program of the Science Meeting, through participation in the multiple parallel thematic sessions, demonstrations of R&D activities and doctoral student posters.

The Commissioner of the Science 2023 Meeting is the researcher Helena Vieira, Coordinator and holder of the ERA CHAIR BESIDE Chair at the University of Aveiro/CESAM, being also responsible for the launching of the BESIDE project and for the implementation and coordination of a new transversal team of researchers in the field of Environmental Economics & Natural Resources. Spain is the guest country for this edition and will have a strong representation and participation in the program.
