A call for expressions of interest has been launched for the creation of a shortlist of candidates for the acquisition of the modular surface science laboratory system (SSLS) – reference JRC/KRU/2023/CEI/3071, located at the Karlsruhe Institute of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), whose components have been acquired, assembled and optimized over the last 10 years.

SSLS has a high productivity and is used in various fields of advanced research, such as hydrogen production, corrosion, catalysis, nuclear fuel safety and, in general, solid-state actinide chemistry and physics.

However, due to limited human resources, it is not possible to continue to operate this equipment optimally at the Karlsruhe institute, which opens up the opportunity for it to be granted free of charge to another research institution or university based in an EU member state that has the capacity to guarantee its operability, as well as continued access by the JRC and member states under the framework for open access to the JRC’s research infrastructures.

The deadline for submitting applications has been extended to May 31, 2024 (16:00 CET). Documents are available with a brief description of the system and a guide to the requirements and procedures needed to prepare an application.

The FCT is responsible for disseminating news and opportunities related to the JRC.
